Seascape is a 41' Morgan "Out Island" ketch

Practically everything on SeaScape has either been upgraded, redone or refinished (an ongoing process). In March, 2009, the topsides, boot topping and strip around the ports were repainted along with the bottom in on-going maintenance, for example. The cushions are new as of February 2009. All of the interior teak has been varnished with up to 14 coats! The cabin sole was extended to teak and holly throughout the boat. The galley and table have been completely redone. The swim step has been redone to molded fiberglass as of 2009. There is a fold-up swim ladder. In November of 2009 we installed self-tailing winches. We have purchased 12 new stainless steel ports that will be installed later as we get time between charters.

A Perkins 4-236 engine of 85 HP with less than 200 hours was installed in August 2008. The diesel tank holds 128 gallons, enough for 80 hours of running time with 25 gallons in reserve. SeaScape burns about 1 1/4 gallons per hour. There are two water tanks, one of 128 gallons on the port side and another of 45 gallons, beside the engine in the engine room (in addition we place aboard 24 to 30 gallons of purified drinking water). The galley has a saltwater pump to rinse dishes. The battery banks have been increased to two and one half times their original size. There is a total of over 1000 amp hours of house batteries. The banks can be combined to start the engine if need be.

The jib is 135% size with Profurl roller-furling. The sails are in very good shape, with the jib new in 2004, the mizzen in 2006 and the main in 2007. . In 2008, we installed a lazy-jack system with a built-in sail cover for the main. The electric windlass is a Muir purchased in 2008. The anchor is a 66 lb Bruce type anchor with 200' of 3/8”BBB chain. The back up anchor is a 60 lb Northill type anchor with chain and rope.

There are two heads with showers. The head in the aft cabin is electric. There is a swim shower at the stern above the swim step and ladder. The refrigerator is front-loading and runs on 110AC when at the dock and automatically converts to 12 volts (DC) upon leaving the dock. In addition there is a large icebox which we fill with block ice (we also fill an ice chest). The stove is stainless steel with two burners, an oven and a broiler. It burns propane with its own tank on the stern. On the railing of the stern on the starboard side is a large Force 10 barbeque with its own tank. There is a microwave oven, which is above the propane stove. There is an inverter and charger to power the microwave oven and other 110 AC needs while underway and charge the batteries while at the dock.

SeaScape sleeps seven in three separate cabins. The table in the main cabin makes up into a very comfortable double bed. The seat opposite the table makes up into a single berth. The aft cabin's bed is larger than queen size, with its own separate head and shower. The forward cabin has two berths, over and under. The forward head has two doors, so that each of the cabins can be blocked-off. Some people choose to sleep up on deck. We also have a hammock that hangs between the jib and the main mast. When there is a skippered charter, the skipper sleeps in the cockpit. I have slept up there many times even when not out on a skippered charter.

SeaScape is well-equipped for either warm weather or windy conditions. There are fans above each of the five bunks. There are a total of 16 ports and 6 hatches (two of which are entrance hatches). The whole interior has a fiberglass headliner with 1" to 2" of dead airspace between the headliner and the deck. There is not a cooler sailboat in the Sea of Cortez during the warmer times. The bimini has sunshades for warmer days and a plastic front window with side curtains that changes it into a dodger for windier, colder weather. There are custom made cockpit cushions in the cockpit.

There is a new AM/FM radio with a CD player. It is IPod equipped and Sirius equipped to receive satellite signals. There are two speakers in the main cabin and also two in the cockpit. Besides the VHF radio, there is a cellular phone with the antenna atop the mizzen mast. Many charters even call home, and family and friends can call you.

SeaScape is equipped for fishing with rods and reels. Two rod holders are installed on the stern. You can fish from SeaScape, the Boston Whaler, the kayaks or from shore! AND cook your fish on the barbecue grill!

The 13' Boston Whaler comes with a 20hp, 2006 Honda and is available as an extra, as are two person kayaks and a 14’ Lazer.sailboat.
