One-week charters on the Sea of Cortez
If you see a Mexican panga going by, wave them over and ask them if they have fish to trade or sell. Offer them agua (water) in exchange. They will have a container ready. Theyre very friendly, but its best not to invite them aboard.
San Francisco Island has one of the best anchorages available. Anchor in the northern part close to the cliffs for the best protection.
WEDNESDAY explore San Franciscos great shoreline with its long beach. Walk over to the other side of the island and see the crabs scurrying about. Hike the trail along the south ridge to see if you can find where many years ago
a German supported himself for several years by mining gold. The cliffs at the northern part of the anchorage provide a fantastic place to kayak and snorkle.
THURSDAY you should leave relatively early in order to sail around the northern side of the island. You will see COYOTE, a small island with permanent residents that were grandfathered in when permanent settlements were banned in the islands of the Sea of Cortez. You will also see the southern side of one of the largest islands in the Sea of CortezSAN JOSE.
Unfortunately there are no safe places on the entire island to anchor overnight. With your remianing time, you could stop again at Los Islotes, orif you missed Ensenada Grande pay a visit. You might go on down to El Cardinala long narrow well-protected bay with a sandy beach at its head.
